A Chinese woman was imprisoned for 13 years in connection with a fraud case of 7 million yuan (US $ 1 million) related to tickets to Shanghai Disneyland.

Prosecutors said the woman, identified only by her surname Yuan, claimed to be an assistant to a senior manager at the theme park, and that she could buy advance tickets at half the price for customers.

It collected a total of 9 million yuan (US $ 1.34 million) and provided only 2 million yuan in tickets for customers, since it spent part of the money to cover its own debts.

The woman was also ordered to return the money paid for her victims and pay fines of 300,000 yuan (US $ 44,514).

But some families say they never received money from runners, and there are reports that their foreign wives abused girls.

The Chinese government is also under fire for issuing visas in an unquestionable manner for girls.

The Chinese demand for foreign brides is linked to a gender imbalance caused by a one-child policy that the nation has just discarded. Brides have also been brought to China from other Asian countries, including Vietnam, Laos and North Korea.
