A great honor for three students who are currently spending a school year in Duisburg with the non-profit youth exchange organization AFS Interkulturelle Begegnungen eV On the invitation of the city, Pitchapha Smitasiri of Thailand, Juan Strobe Ramos of United States and Damian Cepuchowicz of Poland were able to meet with Mayor Manfred Osenger Thursday afternoon at the Mercatorzimmer. Personalities such as Mikhail Gorbachev, Queen Elizabeth or Angela Merkel have already been received.
Bgm. Osenger has shown great interest in visiting international students by asking questions about their country of origin, their experiences in Germany and their professional wishes. Prior to the meeting, the three AFS exchange students went to Salvator Church, where they were rehearsing for an organ concert. The young people also had a unique experience during a walk in the paternoster.
The AFS student program offers young people aged 15 to 18 the opportunity to spend a year or a year abroad and to experience school life in the host country with students. young people from other cultures. Those who spend some time abroad learn a lot about another culture and another language, but also about themselves: this is how young people get acquainted with their strengths, their new talents. and their new language. Through their experience abroad, young people contribute to cultural tolerance and diversity and significantly shape our open and sustainable society.
