Online pornography: media tutors go against porn sites


The State Department of Media (LMA) in North Rhine-Westphalia is opposed to popular German online pornography providers. Media guardians suspect a violation of the state treaty on the protection of youth media, because providers do not control the age of users.

The application of German law will probably be difficult, since at least two of the companies reside in Cyprus. Tobias Schmid, Director of the NRW State Media Authority, does not want to be postponed and give an example of this. "The danger to the protection of minors does not diminish, just because it comes from abroad," he says. Schmid has already contacted media guardians in Cyprus.

In addition, the LMA wants to prevent unauthorized appeals in the "Coin Master" smartphone app, which is currently under consideration for possible risks for children and adolescents. "Coin Master" belongs to the simulated gambling genre and is criticized by young supporters as an entry-level drug for classic casino games. In this case, following an exchange with the Israeli authorities, media guards asked Tel Aviv's Moon Active provider to comment.

In mid-November, several European regulators in Brussels want to strengthen, among other things, a revision of the e-commerce directive. It should make it easier for media to pursue violations by foreign suppliers.
