This is what you call gamma: Hansjörg Freiherr von Gemmingen-Hornberg (56) has completed a million kilometers with his Tesla Model S today.
"I drive about 600 kilometers a day", says the experienced farmer. "In the past, I was sitting on the tractor all day, so it was no different." Meanwhile, Freiherr von Gemmingen-Hornberg lives like a privateer, who has made his fortune in part by trading foreign currency near Karlsruhe.
Now he has time. His longest journey: to the North Cape, for a total of 14,000 kilometers in 14 days. The S model purchased the E-frequency converter as a demonstration vehicle. One year, 30,000 kilometers on the digital speedometer. "I paid almost 90,000 euros". It was 2014.
Electricity supplied to Tesla free of charge
Since then, Freiherr von Gemmingen-Hornberg has only had low operating costs. "I get electricity from Tesla for free. Even in hotels where I stay for nothing."
In addition, Tesla offers an eight-year warranty. "Without mileage limit", underlines the driver. "Maybe they still give me another new engine." In the meantime it has already replaced the fourth unit, all for a guarantee.
The current battery, already the second in this car, has lost 470,000 kilometers and so far has lost only 20 percent of its original capacity. The range is currently still about 300 kilometers. And consumption? 16.6 kilowatt hours, says the owner. So you can't say exactly: there are only data for the last 330,000 kilometers …
The brakes are little used
"All in all, I paid € 13,000 for repairs." Moreover, the wear is limited. Once it was 300,000 kilometers not in service. Otherwise: every 50,000 kilometers of new tires, every 400,000 kilometers of new brakes. "In 99 percent of the cases, I drive with recovery and I don't have to slow down."
His next destination is now a million miles (1.65 million kilometers). "A stop", says the baron. "I drive the Tesla as gently as possible, rarely over 120 km / h. Because it should last a long time."
► Why does everything do it? It wants to provide a greater understanding of alternative units. "The electric car is a mosaic stone, many other things must happen."
