A cry of alarm that makes the buzz. It was launched on social networks by Jean-Christophe, worried about the future of the spa town.

It is a long text which was published by a child of Luchon, Jean-Christophe Gimenez. Child hotelier, hotelier himself, he also took the Little Train Luchon. Today is a cry of alarm that he wanted to launch on social networks. He expresses himself in the name of the interest of the city, without any political pretensions, he says. He simply draws up a report and is worried about the lack of attendance of the spa town at the beginning of the season.

What made you react?

I love my city, I believe it, I still invest in my businesses, even if the times are hard. Coming from a family of six generations of hoteliers, I feel more in tune with the desires of our guests than those of some locals who have blinkers. I am around 20,000 customers a year, between spa guests, tourists and skiers. People from all walks of life, of all ages and from all backgrounds. July 1, I settled as usual with my little train and consternation, I did not do one of my courses, for lack of customers. With our potential, it seemed to me inadmissible.

What do you emphasize?

We are today in global competition with beautiful and affordable destinations nowadays. It seems to me essential to take an interest in the Baths urgently. People often stress a lack of welcome, a deplorable internal atmosphere and denounce a concept of another time! The thermal baths provide the territory with a fixed clientele from the beginning of April to the end of October. Tourism is good, but it only represents a few weekends and a month and a half of summer holidays … Skiing is good in winter, but it's only three weeks of busy a 90-day season. It is thirty years since we neglected what has made Luchon famous, namely the spa. Why did our elected officials, right and left, ignore what seemed obvious?

Emergency work?

The spa is doing well in France except at home. It is necessary to bet the maximum on the fitness with external basins facing the Venasque around the Vaporarium. We will be the last to do it in the spas of the Pyrenees but we have the advantage of the Vaporarium, the thermal water and feedback from what works elsewhere. Medical thermalism is steadily increasing at the national level, so let's get on the wave by investing heavily in Chambert's baths with the help of private capital.

Other tracks?

Yes, paragliding, for example. We were an important spot but with the closure of the St-Mamet course, beginners free flight enthusiasts deserted. We need to find a landing field closer than the aerodrome. If we talk about mountain biking, with better maintenance of paths and the creation of different levels and clear signage, the station could live in summer. The teleport should have a larger opening amplitude. We must also reconnect with our festive life, people are bored at home. Today, the alleys of Etigny, formerly our showcase, are dying. To energize them again, let's put a lot of animations on the esplanade of the spa, to create new flows. Casino, train, Lake Badech, the tracks are multiple. I know that criticism is easy but we have no choice, we must act. Let's look at our neighbors in Louron, they had nothing and today they are leader!
