New violence erupted in France just days after the arrest by the French authorities of one of the main organizers of the Yellow Vests movement.

After the peaceful start of the demonstrations, the Paris police deployed tear gas and batons during the riot of the demonstrators on the Day of Fury called "Act VIII", while demonstrations were underway in several French cities and London. Riot police guarded the barricades on the Seine bridge, while garbage cans were burned along Boulevard Saint-Germain.

Eric Drouet, 33, one of the most prominent leaders of the Yellow Vest movement, was arrested on Wednesday night for leading an unauthorized demonstration, reporting the crackdown on anti-government protesters after nearly two months of violence – events filled.

Drouet, a truck driver from the Paris suburbs, was arrested Wednesday night in Paris near the iconic Avenue des Champs-Elysees, a place of choice for yellow vests. Drouet was arrested while directing the commemoration of the yellow jackets that have died since the movement's inception, most of which have been struck by cars during roundabout protests across the country, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The movement, which began by protesting against a fuel tax, has turned into a general movement against the Macron government. France is the most taxed country in the world.
